Pregnant Woman Stabbed And Her Unborn Child Removed From Her Belly

In Colorado, a pregnant woman stabbed in the belly had her unborn child removed. It seems the Dynel Lane had tried her best to make her family believe she was pregnant. Before the attack, she even had a pre-natal appointment set for that day.

But when her husband came home to take her to the appointment, he found her covered in blood. He also found a baby in the bathtub.

Lane told her husband she had gone through a miscarriage. He then took her and the baby to the hospital where she was arrested on the charge of attempted first-degree murder along with other suspected crimes.

According to the police, the pregnant woman came to her house in response to an ad on Craigslist for baby clothes.

This dramatic event sparked a debate on a subject discussed several times in Colorado: whether a fetus should be considered a human being.

District Attorney Stan Garnett is waiting for the autopsy results that will be released Friday March 20 in order to determine the time and cause of the baby’s death which will help set the charges.

The 26-year-old stab victim managed to call 911. She was in her 8th month of pregnancy, expecting to give birth to a girl. She was given the appropriate medical attention after arriving to the hospital and according to the police she was conscious and was capable of answering questions.

According to a doctor involved, the incision was well done, meaning Lane must have done some research on Cesarean births before the crime.

After Assistant Boulder County District Attorney Ryan Brackley characterized the crime as “extremely violent and premeditated” Dynel Lane was imprisoned and a judge ordered for her to remain in prison on $2 million bond. There was no comment from Lane’s attorney Kathryn Herold.

According to Colorado law, the only situation where Lane would be faced with a murder charge would be if the unborn child was alive when outside the womb. This is a delicate subject in this state. Abortion opponents have failed in their attempts to convince the public that a fetus should be considered a human being. If this statement were to become law, many homicide charges could be filed for the deaths of fetuses.

Garnett did not discuss mental illness as a possible reason behind Lane’s actions.
