Lin-Manuel Miranda debuted the powerful new video for “Immigrants (We Get The Job Done),” a cut off The Hamilton Mixtape, Wednesday on Today.
Immigrants Video Produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda Sweeps the Internet
Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Pulitzer and Tony Award winner, has just debuted a video for one of his raps from the mixtape Hamilton. The new video is a spinoff, of some sorts, from the song Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down), and it focuses on the harsh conditions in which immigrants live their lives: from war-torn areas and situations to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. In parallel, the video covers their major and unforgettable contributions to America upon their immigration.
The video comprises of multiple rap artists, such as K’naan, Residente, Riz MC, and Snow Tha Product, who sing about their prospects and their conditions of living on their way to America, which is depicted as the promised land. The Immigrants video is a symbol of solidarity amongst and between immigrants.
In addition to the Immigrants video, Lin-Manuel Miranda has also announced a Prizeo contest that will benefit the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition, which is “an alliance of immigration-focused nonprofits throughout the US assembled by The Hispanic Federation.”
The contest consists in sweepstakes that necessitate a $10 minimum entering fee, which will offer the grand prize of tickets to the premiere of the L.A. offshoot of Hamilton and a meet-and-greet with Miranda too. For this, Lin-Manuel Miranda has teamed with the Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry, his wife, for the #Ham4All Challenge, which is an ice-water-like game in which players must rap one of their favorite songs from the Hamilton musical.
For this, challengers have both participated and challenged others to enter the contest.
All in all, the Immigrants video is a fresh and heart touching video that spins off the idea that the U.S.A. itself is a state established by immigrant founding fathers.
