On Sunday, the famous Billboard Music Awards took place and as the event opened, the audience was probably expecting a moment of silence for the victims of the recent Texas school shooting that unfortunately happened last week. Singer and host Kelly Clarkson offered the people what they wanted, but in a very different way. She ignored the script and rejected the moment of silence that needed to follow. In tears, she said that there should be a moment of action instead.
She held a speech before the event started, telling everyone how devastated she was, as a girl from Texas, about the Santa Fe High School shooting. She admitted to being sick of grieving innocent kids that have done nothing wrong to deserve such a fate. After that, she explained that the instructions she received were to call for a moment of silence, in the memory of those who sadly passed away. However, she refused to do it and said that people need to do something so that such tragedies never happen again. Silence won’t save lives. Actions will.
Kelly Clarkson called for moment of action instead of moment of silence
The crowd went wild with cheers and applause when the host talked. Clarkson continued by saying that parents should not be afraid to let their kids go to cinema, a club, church and above all, to school. A life that’s lived in fear it’s not called a life. And this should never happen. The singer also talked about her four children and said that she cannot imagine getting that dreaded call or a knock on the door. This is why she encouraged everyone to take action in their own communities and give up on holding moments of silence.
The Billboards took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A bunch of celebrities took part in it, like Jennifer Lopes, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Christina Aguilera and many more.
