A computerized voice speaks one of these names, but the problem is that everyone seems to hear a different name. Some are sure that the voice is saying Laurel, while others swear that they can hear Yanny. It seems that we have yet another Internet meltdown in our hands, as people are already trying to convince each other that their sanity is affected if they hear something else. So, a very important question is, what do you hear? Also, why do you hear a specific name? There are some interesting theories out there.

After people began fighting over this bizarre audio recording, a Reddit user came up with a theory that might be explain what is actually happening. According to him, it all has to do with how much bass the device you’re listening on produces. So, with a very low volume, there will be no bass and you will hear Yanny. Turn the volume up, and the base will make it seem like Laurel. Also, it’s important what a person expects to hear when they hit the play button.
Some people claim that they can hear both names, and this is correct. It seems that by manipulating the pitch of the voice, you can hear both Laurel and Yanny. All in all, until the Internet agrees on one name, we are left to speculate once again.
