CD Projekt Red had some files related to their upcoming production under cyber ransomware.

CD Projekt Red is a Polish developer of video games that managed to gain overnight popular support thanks to its biggest RPG project, The Witcher 3. Therefore, it came to no surprise that all its fans were excited to learn more about their latest game that was still in the making, namely Cyberpunk 2077. However, this project might get an unwanted delay due to the studio falling victim to a new type of threat which is cyber ransomware.

On Thursday, CD Projekt Red used its Twitter profile to inform its community about a sudden change of events. It turns out that an individual or a group managed to steal private files that were related to the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 production. On top of that, the author of this attack left a message attack that resembles that of a cyber ransomware.

Attackers demanded the company an unspecified sum of money. If they see that the Polish producer doesn’t want to comply with their terms, then they are going to make the files they have in their possession public.

The Files in Question Might not Be Important for the Company

On the other hand, the situation might not be as alarming as it seems. CF Projeket Red managed to discover the files that the cyber bullies got access to. Fortunately, the assets have little importance to their product. Even though they are part of the Cyberpunk 2077 project, these materials are old enough that they stopped being relevant for the game.

“We will not be giving in to the demands of the individual.”

As a consequence, the company announced through Twitter that they are not going to answer to this cyber ransomware. As such, they are willing to let attackers publish the files they found. However, the company encouraged its community to avoid trusting sources other than their official CD Projekt Red channels.
