For some time, the Candy-themed franchise has been on top and King Digital Entertainment wants to keep it that way with a launch today of the company’s Candy Crush Soda Saga on Facebook. As reported in 2014’s second quarter, there are 345 million monthly unique users.
According to King, the new game is expected to be a huge success as a “sister title” to the original Candy Crush Saga game that generated over one billion dollars in revenue. For a while, the new game was in limited testing but now, it will be accessible to people from all over the world.
In all, the company offers 190 games available in 200 countries although the Candy Crush franchise is the one played most. However, while this franchise has done exceedingly well, King suffered a drop in stock price after reporting lower-than-expected earnings in the second quarter, as well as slight decline in profit specific to the original game.
Although roughly $17 million will likely be spent in 2014 by gamers for mobile games, King is feeling a tremendous amount of pressure to develop additional games that can achieve the same great success as the first installment of Candy Crush.
King has a history of using Facebook as a trial for its games. After bugs are identified and fixed and fan feedback incorporated, the games are launched on mobile devices. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that the Candy Crush Soda Saga would follow suit by being introduced to gamers on Facebook first, which will then become available in a few weeks on mobile devices.
As part of the new Candy Crush game, gamers will enjoy various game modes, new graphics, and interesting candy combinations. Similar to the first game, players have the ability to progress on the map, working their way through different episodes and levels.
In a statement from Sebastian Knutsson, chief creative officer at King Digital Entertainment, the new installment of the Candy Crush franchise is now live via Facebook. He stated that the company’s long-term strategy is to develop a global game franchise that virtually millions of players from around the globe will love playing.
Knutsson confirmed that Candy Crush Soda Saga will include new challenges and gameplay features to enhance gamers’ experience but also complement the original game.
