Unicode Consortium, the non-for-profit group which supervises the development of the text processing standard called Unicode, has recently released a list with 38 new emojis. The group announced that the new animations would be approved in mid-2016, and not all of them are final.
The current batch of candidates include a pregnant woman, Mrs. (Santa) Claus, a prince, a male dancer designed to pair with the female salsa dancer, two emojis to show when you are sarcastic, and even a woman taking a selfie with her smartphone.
Among new faces there is a cowboy with a hat, a ‘nauseated face’ which is about to throw up, an emoji depicting the rofl phrase, an emoji with a Pinocchio-like nose called the “Lying Face,” a pregnant woman holding her belly, a facepalm emoji, and the woman taking a selfie (you can only see her arm and smartphone but if you look closely on her phone’s screen you can actually see her face).
There is also a smiling man in tuxedo which can be paired with the bride emoji but not necessarily. Mrs. Santa Claus dubbed Mrs. Christmas is designed to keep company to Santa Claus aka Father Christmas.
Additionally, the guys from the Unicode Consortium had the neat idea of creating the first ‘Bacon’ emoji. There are also some healthy, veggie emojis including the Carrot and Cucumber animations. The list contains also some new animal faces including a cute fox, an owl, a nervous shark, a duck emoji, and a even a creepy bat.
Next year, we will have also the Scooter and Motor Scooter emojis, two champaign glasses clinging, and a couple of emojis designed to depict more artistically some negative feelings such as anger, apathy, and frustration called the ‘Wilted Flower’ and ‘the Black Heart’ which is literally black.
Both emojis are designed to express sarcasm. The wilted flower is a violet rose that died and one petal falls to the ground, while the black heart is designed to express sorrow, morbidity, or black humor.
But there are also some emoji candidates that are only considered for now. They include a shopping cart, a human leg, a spoon, a stuffed flat bread, a pan, a butterfly, and a gorilla.
You can check a list with mockups of the candidates on emojipedia. Yet, what you will find there is only close to how the new emojis would look like. Every company like Microsoft, Google, and Apple is free to create their own types of emoji by following the basic rules.
