Harvey Weinstein and his former company The Weinstein Co. have been sued by an anonymous actress claiming she was raped by the mogul at a Beverly Hills hotel in 2015 and 2016. The sexual assault reportedly happened after the actress agreed to meet Weinstein to discuss a potential television role.
Gloria Allred, the actress’s attorney filed the complaint at the Los Angeles County Superior Court for a Jane Doe. The complaint states that the actress met the mogul at a 2011 party at Chateau Marmont where the producer asked her for her phone number. After the event, Weinstein invited the actress to several awards show parties over the years.
The producer invited the actress to meet him at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills in 2015 to discuss a television part in the series “Marco Polo”, a property produced by Weinstein Co. Once in the room, the producer wanted to masturbate in front of her. According to Allred, the actress rejected Weinstein’s advances to which he grabbed her wrist and started to “masturbate in front of her until completion”.
The next incident happened the following year in 2016 at the same hotel. The woman agreed to meet the mogul for the same reason as before this time thinking she got a part in “ Marco Polo”. Allred states that the actress was then thrown on a bed by Weinstein after which she was raped.
According to the lawsuit, the actress claims that the company knew of the producer’s “pattern of using his power and the promise of procuring jobs to coerce and force actresses to engage in sexual acts with him”.
Jane Doe is reportedly suing the producer for sexual battery, gender violence, battery, assault, and negligence. A representative of Weinstein’s “unequivocally” denied all allegations against the mogul stating that he believed all the sexual relations were consensual.
