Speculation has been going on for entire months regarding whether or not the Trump or the Obama family are going to get invited to the upcoming Royal Wedding that will take place in May. The official answer to this diplomatic riddle is finally clear. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not going to invite any politicians to their upcoming wedding, not even British Prime Minister Theresa May. On Tuesday, the Kensington Palace solved this mystery with an official statement in which it is gently dealing with this issue.
According to the statement, it has been decided that there is no need for any political figures, both English and international, to attend the May 19th event. The Royal Household reportedly took this decision after consulting with Her Majesty’s Government. This way, Harry and Meghan will break yet another tradition by keeping things low key and by not inviting certain world leaders to their wedding. It’s also interesting that many people thought that the Obamas were going to receive an invitation, especially after the former President and Prince Harry became friends at the Invictus Games in Toronto last year. It seems that was not the case after all.
No Obamas or Trumps at the Royal Wedding
However, back in December, newspapers reported that the future royal couple is under pressure to invite Donald and Melania Trump to their wedding. But while Markle is an American, she has always been a vocal critic of Trump and his administration. According to a source with knowledge, both Harry and Meghan were actually hoping to see the Obamas again, but confirmed that they would not receive a wedding invitation after all.
About 600 guests are going to attend the wedding ceremony at St. George’s Chapel. Also, Harry and Meghan have invited 1,200 members of the public at Windsor Castle, to celebrate this happy event together. On Monday, people were asked to donate to charities as a wedding gift for them.
