Tesla Motors takes its Model S up a notch, by adding super-speed ‘Ludicrous Mode’ to the base electric vehicle model.
A dream come true, albeit a pricey one. While the Model S P85D hit the market at 70,000 dollars, new owners will take out 10,000 more for the Ludicrous Mode. It’s not for nothing. Ludicrous Mode allows the electric vehicle to reach 60 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds.
Do not fret, current owners of Tesla’s Model S. Ludicrous Mode can be added at a cost of 5,000 dollars, with the additional installation costs. And the change can come as soon as the next six months.
Elon Musk, Tesla Motors CEO also made reference to an upcoming battery pack upgrade that is bound to improve the range of Model S. For an extra 3,000 dollars the battery pack will be upgraded to allow the electric vehicle a range of 300 highway miles for just one battery charge. Currently, Model S covers approximately 15 miles less.
As for the Ludicrous Mode, Tesla Motors announced that the upcoming all sporty Model X will also feature the super-speed upgrade. Ludacrious Mode went a long way since Tesla Motors called Model S’s ability to reach 30 miles per hour Insane Mode.
From Insane to Ludicrous, Model S promises to keep Tesla Motors’s stronghold going. As the Palo Alto based company reported an increase in deliveries up to 52 percent during the second quarter, the shares of the company also jumped 2.4 percent on the announcement of the Ludicrous Mode addition to Model S.
A little pop culture mixed with the exciting news. Ludicrous Mode is a spinoff from the Spaceballs spoof. The Star Wars like spaceship in 1987’s Spaceballs was faster than lightspeed. At the speed it was travelling, the spaceship is seen fading out as it turns plaid.
Drawing on this comic detail, Tesla Motors electric vehicle Model S is now bound for Ludicrous Mode speed.
