Open Whisper Systems is a software organization that designed the app Signal. This app is one of the best apps for people who like to keep all of their conversations private. This is because the app has encrypted voice calling and chat so that people can talk without the fear that other might see their conversation.
The Signal app just added another option for its users. People who have the Signal app can now benefit from end-to-end encrypted video calling. Until now, they could only benefit from texting and voice calling. This is great for Signal users because now they can see each other while keeping their conversation for themselves.
In order to use this app people have to input their numbers so that they can be verified. The number they input doesn’t have to be the same one they have on their device SIM. The number can be a landline number or a VoIP number.
The user needs to receive a verification code on the input number. After that, they have to have a different device so that they can set up the software. This app can be used by everybody that wants to benefit from encrypted video calling, texts or voice calling.
Last year the app was tested and the findings showed that it is indeed as safe and secure as it is advertised. From 28 participants more than 21 couldn’t verify the identity of other Signal users. This way, people can be sure that their conversations are known only by them and the one they are talking too.
The encrypted video calling is a great feature especially for people who are apart from one another and would like to see each other. While some might try other apps that have a video calling option, Signal app is better because it offers an encrypted video calling feature.
This option is going to be available for all types of operating systems, including iOS. Those who have iOS 10 are even luckier because they can now answer their calls from the lock screen.
What is your opinion about this app? Do you think that the encrypted video calling option is needed?
