Ever since last week we’ve been bombarded with the idea that only a physician knows best how you can lose fat. Yes, it is true, a physician can help you a lot and give you the boost you need to get down all those extra pounds you don’t want. But what about what we could do on our own? There might be a very simple, powerful tool that can help you a lot on the long run. It is so easy that you will start wondering how you never thought about it.
It is a bottle of water. But not after you’ve exercised all day. You need to drink a bottle of water before every meal, so it will cut your carvings in half. It is a long term plan, but it will surely help you keep your desires under control. Remember when you were young, drank some water before lunch and then halfway through you didn’t feel hungry anymore, but really satisfied? That’s what we are talking about.
So how much water do you really need? Not much, according to University of Birmingham researchers. Approximately 500 ml of tap water drunk 30 minutes before eating should to the trick, greatly reducing weight on the long run. The benefits are also fantastic: it is simple, very cheap, can be promoted not only by doctors, but literally anybody.
The study was published in the Obesity journal and the researchers seem quite confident with the approach, highlighting all the benefits listed above. They hope that further research is going to be made concerning water preloading before eating.
The experiment involved a number of obese adults which volunteered for the 12-week trial. Weight management consultation was given to all members particularly, being encouraged to make a change in their lifestyle, diets and day to day activities.
The participants were split into two groups: 41 were asked to preload with water 30 minutes before eating anything while the other 43 were asked to just imagine that they had a full stomach before their daily meals. And the results were quite interesting.
The “preload group” lost, on average, 1.3 kg more than the “imagination group”. While the preloads reported a loss of 4.3 kilograms within the 12 weeks, the imaginaries lost 0.8 kilograms, and that gives us a solid winner.
So remember to drink some water half an hour before you eat anything. If you combine this with well executed exercise, you might end up losing 20 kg within the next three months.
