It seems that Prince Harry’s future royal bride, former actress Meghan Markle, is going to receive her own coat of arms following the royal wedding which takes place in May. However, she will not be the only one because her father might receive one too. According to a source with knowledge of the royal traditions, her father will receive a coat of arms because his daughter will be married to someone who is part of the royal family. And it wouldn’t be the first time either. Kate Middleton’s father also got one, as well as Sophie Rhys-Jones’ father, when she married Prince Edward.
However, even if the tradition is there, things are not yet completely finalized. It also depends on whether or nor Mr. Markle wishes to receive one or not. So far, nobody knows anything about this. As for Michael Middleton, Kate’s father, he had a gold chevron in his own coat of arms. This is because the former British Airways flight dispatcher wanted to use something in reference to his wife’s maiden name, Goldsmith. Apart from this, his coat of arms also had three acorns, representing his three children, Kate, Pippa and James.
Meghan Markle’s father might receive a coat of arms too
But if this is still a mystery, the Kensington Palace has already confirmed that Meghan Markle is indeed going to have her own coat of arms. Many expect it to appear on the souvenir program for the royal wedding, in May. John Petrie, Herald in Waiting at the College of Arms and the man responsible with her coat of arms explained that there is no doubt that she will get one. It’s tradition, and she automatically qualifies for a coat of arms.
The royal coat of arms is the official one that the British monarch uses. It contains four quarters and usually, it can be customized to represent the person’s characters and passions.
