Macy’s has officially announced its schedule for Thanksgiving Day as it decided to open one hour earlier.
As many plan to spend Thanksgiving Day surrounded by friends and family, the big retail names, as well as the smaller shops are starting to announce their official programs for the holiday.
Amidst a number of surprises, as some shops have decided to keep the spirit and stay closed for the holiday Macy’s, the big retailer name, has decided to open its stores one hour earlier than last year.
The store chain first kept its doors open to customers on Thanksgiving Day evening back in 2013 and has been doing so ever since. Macy’s released a public statement on Monday that not only informed the public that the store will be kept open, amidst an increasing number of shops closing, but that it will also open earlier.
The new schedule will feature a 5 p.m. opening hour on Thanksgiving, with the majority of the stores being kept working until 2 a.m., followed by a 6 a.m. reopening hour on Friday.
Although the company’s open on Thanksgiving Day tradition remains, this year is marked by an earlier opening time and also a shorter program. In the past years, the chain’s stores usually remained open throughout the night.
The company’s The Associated Press statement also maintains that the department store chain’s employees were taken into consideration. Macy’s declared that the Thanksgiving evening will feature volunteering associates so that no employee will be forced to work through the holiday.
The store reported that its employees have long since been informed about the decision to keep open and that they were free to decide if they will be working on the year’s busiest weekend.
The start of the holiday season shopping has long since began immediately after Thanksgiving Day, with many stores opening increasingly early and even keeping open hours during the holiday.
As such, there were many voices that claimed that the stores put profit before employee as they had to work on or immediately after Thanksgiving.
Macy’s declaration of having announced its employees is meant to shut down any possible such accusations, especially since it is one of the big chain stores to keep open hours for the holiday, and could influence this year’s Thanksgiving trend outcome.
After several other stores including hhgregg, Mall of America, CBL & Associates, and Staples decided to keep their stores closed during Thanksgiving, Macy’s decision may come to show that other big names will keep the past trend and not only open, but also do so at even earlier hours.
