Land Rover will soon release Range Rover Velar, the fourth member of the luxurious SUV group. This could be the first time when the company gets closer to a crossover. However, Velar is not just a car like any other.
Land Rover dubbed their new car “the best on-road vehicle”. But what does this mean? The new Velar should feel like a car while driving on the motorway or in the city. It is responsive and more stable in twists and turns. Thus, it should feel like any SUV from companies that do not produce off-road cars.
David Doody, the director of the Velar program, said that their aim was to make Velar more sporty than the typical Range Rover. However, when you switch from a city road to a rocky forest, Velar can keep going because, no matter how sporty it can get, it remains a Land Rover.
Velar is suitable for all kinds of drivers and roads. You can drive it anywhere and switch between roads without being afraid that it might get inaccessible.
At the launch, Land Rover revealed that the new SUV would come with the Terrain Response Technology typical of Range Rover. All-wheel drive will be available on all models. The more powerful ones will feature air suspension and differentials that lock electronically.
Also, the car will bring about some new design features that the company will try to make a Range Rover standard. Some of them include the door handles that retract into the body of the car at speeds above 5 mph, a 10-inch touchscreen system, or a safety aid that covers everything from blind spots or emergency braking.
Also, Land Rover tried to be eco-friendly by choosing a new material for the seats. Velar is equipped with a Premium Textile seat trim, a sustainable material developed with Kvadrat that can replace leather. When it comes to engine details, it will have three diesel options.
Velar comes on an increasing SUV market, offering revolutionary design and technology, new materials, and the typical Land Rover off-road capability that allows the drivers to enter any road they like.
The new SUV made its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday and is scheduled to go on sale sometime in the mid-2017.
