Police officers were called in for a crime scene in Phoenix, where they discovered the self-mutilated body of a man who had allegedly decapitated a woman and their two dogs.
The suspect, with a history of mental illness, is currently in custody, according to police statements. The 42 year-old male was found at the home where the dogs and woman had been killed, with an almost-severed arm and a severed eye.
The neighbour who discovered the gruesome scene had been checking in on a friend, he stated, when the suspect answered the door naked. According to Sergeant Trent Crump, the man had amputated his left arm just below the elbow, and was severely injured.
Both the suspect and his female victim had allegedly been suffering from mental illness. That’s precisely why George Loney, their neighbor, used to check in frequently to make sure that everything was okay with the two. The suspect had met his victim in a mental illness institution, Loney alleged.
Aside from the initial shock of the suspect who had cut off his own arm, police officers entered what seemed to be a horror setting, with the woman’s decapitated body and the two dogs that had suffered the same fate.
“The female victim was located in a walk-in closet in bedroom of the home,” Sgt. Trent Crump said.
Authorities are attempting to identify what the suspect used.
The female victim was a Christian, their neighbor said, regardless of her mental condition, and she left friends and family behind. After police officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was rushed to the nearest hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
During their short conversation, the suspect told police officers that he had killed three of his family members. Because he did not clearly identify his victims, authorities are unsure at the moment whether the man was referring to the woman and their dogs. They are currently contacting other family members to ensure that everyone is safe.
