According to the latest U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report, the Costco E.Coli outbreak linked to celery-onion mix in chicken salad.
The Costco E.Coli outbreak is deemed more dangerous than the recent Chipotle outbreak. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the E.Coli outbreak is linked specifically a chicken-based salad called Chicken Salad made with Rotisserie Chicken.
More specifically, mix including celery and onion spicing up the salad is the root of the E.Coli infection. All products have been recalled following the news Montana Public Health Laboratory test results stating that the celery-onion mix
“indicated the presence of E.Coli O157:H7”.
As such, Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. has voluntarily recalled not only the Chicken Salad made with Rotisserie Chicken, but a number of other products containing the celery. The Costco E.Coli outbreak linked to celery-onion mix in chicken salad has left 19 people infected with the bacteria.
The cases are distributed among seven western states. These are California, Colorado, Virginia, Missouri, Washington, Utah and Montana.
While the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention hasn’t announced any deaths due to the E.Coli outbreak, five of the 19 patients are hospitalized. Two of the patients are suffering from kidney failure.
The E.Coli outbreak was traced back to the Chicken Salad made with Rotisserie Chicken sold at Costco. Already on November 20th, Costco announced that whatever was left on the shelves from the chicken salad containing the celery-onion mix was recalled.
Costco customers who purchased the chicken salad before or on the date are advised to return or throw the Chicken Salad made with Rotisserie Chicken. The E.Coli infected batch and responsible for the Costco E.Coli outbreak is easily recognizable by the number 37719 present on the label.
The investigation into the Costco E.Coli outbreak is currently ongoing, with the celery-onion mix believed to be present in other products too.
