Most of us have heard of autonomous cars, Uber or Elon Musk. Nowadays, the range of autonomous vehicles is ever-expanding with buses and big rigs. Now, CNH Industrial gives you the robo-tractor!
They see it as a major agricultural advancement. It is supposed to make superior use of labor, has the ability to work around the clock and drives itself. It also has real-time monitoring of information, so you know it’s doing its job right.
In future, it will be upgraded to respond to changes in the weather. The autonomous tractor brings all these benefits and more to world agriculture. It was revealed at the Farm Progress Show in Iowa.
Automatized farming is of increasing importance for a sustainable, economically wise, efficient agriculture sector. Farm work still requires long hours in the field. Harvest time or planting time are such occurrences when long hours are needed.
The CNH Industrial Innovation Group has come up with a concept to enable farmers to increase production and productivity, during planting and harvesting.
The industrial tractor is designed for remote deployment. It can be monitored and controlled from a distance.
The design certainly stands out. The tractor of the future has no operator station and boasts dynamic lines. The bold headlights complement its distinctive shape.
The interface is interactive and provides quick feedback. The tractor finds the most effective paths and requires minimal intervention for mowing, spraying, planting and cultivating seeds.
The board computer features a menu where the farmer simply chooses the type of field and the job he wants to be done. The entire process lasts for less than thirty seconds.
The machine can be controlled and monitored from a distance. All you need is a desktop computer or a tablet.
Some other important features which equip the tractor are radar, lasers for calculating range and video cameras for recording obstacles.
The novelty about this tractor is that you can control it from a distance. While it’s not completely autonomous, it behaves more like a remote controlled device.
But hopes are that one day, farming will be revolutionized by the introduction of the completely autonomous tractor. Until then, the closest thing we’ve got is the Case IH.
